Trips are always rejuvenating and a great escape from our usual routine of cooking, cleaning and doing household chores. We planned for a 2 day trip to a near by hillstation before mittus school reopens and hearing that ooty and coonoor were already buzzing with people, hubby suggested that we go to Kotagiri and yes within a week we booked our rooms and was all set for the trip.
Kotagiri is a small quiet scenic town in the Nilgiris District.Kotagiri enjoys a climatic advantage over Ooty in that it is protected by the Doddabetta mountain range from the onslaught of the south-west monsoon.
We took the route via Mettupalayam...The road was recently laid I guess,so it was super new and good that we thoroughly enjoyed the ride .When mittu was starting her crankiness kotagiri came.We reached there around 10:30AM and the climate was chill, breezy perfect for a holiday. We checked in at TwinTree
, relaxed a bit and roamed around the surroundings. The room was clean, pretty descent and there was a private verandah with a tea table setup , which has a see through glass, it was a pleasure sitting there and gaze at the scenary.
There is a small garden in front of the hotel which has colorful flowers and a small sit out too.The mountain, the flowers and the greenery around were mesmerizing.
Everything was good about twintree except that the service was average. Also the food was not allowed inside the room either we have to go down to the restaurant or have it at the verandah sofa....but that was ok as we had our breakfast at the restaurant and opted to have our dinner at the sitout as it was raining we didnt want to go down. One main thing that bothered us was they kept calling us often through intercom to take the menu, then asking us to come down to the restaurant soon which was little annoying, disturbing our sleep and relaxing mood too....hope they think of alternate solution for this.
We decided to lunch out to try out some new restaurant.....On the way we saw a restaurant named AS Gardens and I was clueless why the restaurant was so empty at the peak lunch time. It was only after we dined we understood the reason ;)
The lunch was very average, I wanted to be safe so ordered PB masala thinking that no one can spoil PB masala...But they proved me wrong :( With great dissatisfaction we reached back to the room and munched on some snacks we brought.
We ordered onion pakoda with coffee and tea. The pakodas were super tasty and there we ended our evening tea break. We had our dinner at Twin tree and should mention the food was so homely and good especially when we have kids with us.
The three popular trekking trails in Kotagiri are : Kodanad, St. Catherine Falls and Longwood Shola. The Kotagiri - Kodanad trail leads you through splendid views of lush-green tea estates. The next day morning we set out to kodanad view point. One has to cross through meadows to reach Kodanad and that was the main attraction to us than the viewpoint :) The time we reached there , the viewpoint was totally covered with mist and we could hardly see anything. The view of catherine falls was breathtaking.
We were super hungry and this time we didnt want to take risk so enquired few poeple there in town and found the restaurant of our kind. Orange Pekoe it was!! The ambience was great, the food was absolutely awesome.
I loved all their serving utensils.... .We ordered Butter Kulcha,Egg Fried Rice, Roomali Roti and Peas Masala. Mittu loved Romali roti and peas masala.
When I started clicking she started food styling haha ;) Can you see her tiny hands at the background? :)
There is not much of night life in Kotagiri, the town sleeps early as with any hillstation but hotels/restaurants are open till 10PM. It was raining so we choose to have our dinner in the resort we stayed...We had egg noodles, chapathi, parotta and chicken gravy....no complaints it was good!
After having a heavy hearty lunch we had icecreams chocolate and strawberry flavours...yumm!!
There were tea plantations to all the sides our eyes could reach and it was such a beautiful sight to watch.I bought a pack of chocolate tea and have already tasted it...I totally loved it! Now I am in the mood of recreating it at home... and I was awed by the beautiful lighting, not too harsh not too dull perfect for food photography....by now you should understand a food bloggers mind right?! :)
The town by itself is very scenic that if you go for a drive you can feel the bliss....nature at its best! Now do you want to hear more stories and ready to see more pics?! then come back for the continuation of this post in part II which I will be posting next week, till then cya, happy weekend!!
